8-year-old girl Tan Ying Shan needs RM80K for surgery, hoping for a helping hand from the public

Ying Shan was born, she was diagnosed with congenital neurodevelopmental disorder. She was unable to take care of herself. For the past 8 years, her parents have been taking care of her 24 hours a day, feeding her, changing her diapers, showering and etc.

Initially, the cost of the first operation was RM30,000, which was within the affordability of the parents. However, due to unexpected circumstances, there were successive surgeries, the total cost of the four surgeries had soared to RM250,000.

Her medical insurance was able to cover up to RM100,000 of the bill and another RM70,000 was paid by the parents themselves, unfortunately, they are still short of RM80,000 on the medical bill. In order for Ying Shan to undergo the surgeries, her father had spent up all his life savings to rescue his beloved daughter. Ying Shan’s dad has left no choice but to reach out to us – Soserve Welfare to look for help.

After performing a home visit and being entrusted by the parents, we decided to launch a fundraising campaign for Ying Shan in order to save her precious little life. We appeal to all kindhearted people from the public to lend a helping hand to this 8-year-old little girl Tan Ying Shan, so that she can undergo medical treatment and recover soon. We would like to say thank you in advance to the public.

In April 2015, Tan Chun Kiat (father) and Ting Jia Ning (mother) welcomed their first child, they gave birth to a lovely baby girl, Tan Ying Shan.

After 4 months Ying Shan was born, she was diagnosed with congenital neurodevelopmental disorder. She was unable to take care of herself. For the past 8 years, her parents have been taking care of her 24 hours a day, feeding her, changing her diapers, showering and etc.

3surgeries done in 2 weeks

On 2/12/2022, Ying Shan had been constantly crying due to the pain and swelling of her abdomen. After having few days of medication, her condition did not improve. Her parents immediately sent her for examination in the hospital.

Ying Shan was diagnosed with Sigmoid Volvulus which caused her to have abdomen swelling and pain. Thereafter a Colectomy surgery was performed on 4/12/2022.

After completing the operation, the parents thought they could discharge from the hospital and go home happily. However, the little girl once again cried continuously for several days as she was suffering from deep pain. The doctor then performed another examination and detected a wound at her intestine caused by the first surgery. The food was flowed into other parts of her intestinal through the wound, causing her abdomen to swell and suffer from excruciating pain.

On the 7/12/2022, the third day after her first operation, Ying Shan performed a second surgery. The surgery is to clean the food that flown to other parts of her body and to suture the intestine wound caused by the first colon operation.

However, on the 12th day of admission (14/12/2022), Ying Shan had unknown abdominal pain and swelling, she had been frequently vomiting green liquid. The doctor found out there is an intestinal bacterial infection caused from the previous colon wound.

On the same day, she underwent her third surgery. The doctor performed Colostomy to place her intestine out of the body, hence is easier for the little girl to defecate, and to avoid bacterial infection in her intestine again.

Currently, the parents need to replace 6 colostomy bags every day in order for Ying Shan to defecate smoothly. Two months after the third operation, Ying Shan will have to undergo her fourth surgery to put her intestine back into her body.
