The 16 years old Jun Hao suffered from bone cancer at the age of 8.

They thought he was cured and can continue his studies after the amputation surgery but the cancer recurred again unexpectedly.

The cancer cells have metastasized to his lungs, causing lung cancer, which required tumor removal again.

However, due to the spread, part of the tumor is very close to his heart so only part of the tumor could be removed while the part near to the heart was kept.

Currently, Jun Hao is required to undergo long-term chemotherapy to sustain his life.

Struggling to study at the age of 8 when diagnosed with cancer

Jun Hao was diagnosed with bone cancer when he was 8 years old.

Upon the doctor’s advice, he sought professional treatment at the hospital at Selangor.

His condition improved slightly after the first tumor removal surgery.

However, his wound is infected repeatedly in the following year and the wound could not be healed.

He had no choice but only can proceed with leg amputation to save his life at the cost of losing his left leg.

Jun Hao fitted a prosthetic leg and continued his study until he entered to secondary school.

Continuation of treatment after recurrence

Unfortunately, Jun Hao was once again plagued by cancer at the end of 2021 when Jun Hao was studying Form 2.

The cancer cells have spread to his lung and formed a tumor in his lungs.

Jun Hao was forced to quit school and remove the prosthetic to fight against cancer once again.

Due to the spread, part of the tumor is very close to his heart and complete removal of the tumor raises the risk.

As a result, only part of the tumor could be removed while the part near to the heart was kept, and he requires long-term chemotherapy to suppress the disease.

A family of four relying on the meager income of a single father

Jun Hao from Ipoh lost his mother before he was a year old. He has lived with his father, sister, and grandfather since then.

A family of 4 with family members of 16-year-old Jun Hao who has been diagnosed with cancer, a 17-year-old sister who is still studying, an 80-year-old grandfather who also needs someone to take care of, and the 61 years old single father (Hooi Kin Sing) who is the only source of income for the family.

Although his father has reached retirement age, he has to continue working to support the family’s livelihood, his son’s health, and his daughter’s education.

His sister is currently preparing for the SPM exam and will start working after graduation to share the responsibility of taking care of their 16-year-old brother and 80-year-old grandfather.

However, Jun Hao needs 12 rounds of chemotherapy this year and he has to travel to Kuala Lumpur, to take the chemotherapy every month.

Each session of chemotherapy requires a five-day hospital stay and follow-up medication.

This exorbitant medical expense has made life unbearable for the family with meager income. His cousin who has been supporting Jun Hao’s treatment all the while has just given birth to a baby and is too busy to help.

Hence, she has contacted SoServ Welfare for help on their behalf.
