Kah Heng had a sudden cramp and high fever when he was 5 years old. When his family sent him to the hospital and was told by the doctor that Kah Heng has missed the best time for the treatment which lead to learning and intellectual disabilities.
During the visit, the doctor asked about the reasons for Kah Heng’s cramps and whether feed him any medicine when he was a baby. This had remembered the parents that Kah Heng had diarrhea when he was 5 months and the nanny had bought the antidiarrheal medicine for him which his parents only found out after that, but nothing happened to Kah Heng at that time.
As a result, the doctor and Kah Heng’s family suspected that Kah Heng had taken an overdose of antidiarrheal medicine which caused brain injury and affected brain development. Since then, Kah Heng has become an intellectual and learning disability. He also suffers from a urinary disorder in which he will hold back his urine, medication is required to help him to urinate.
Kah Heng will be cramped at least 2-3 times a day since he was 5 years old and if it is frequent, it will be once every half an hour. His parents need to record the frequency of Kah Heng’s cramps and inform the doctor during the follow-up visits so the doctor can prescribe the accurate amount of medicine for Kah Heng
Mother is aged and incapable to take care of Kah Heng Anymore
Kah Heng’s mother never thinks of leaving him behind but has taken care of him since he became disabled. However, his mother is getting older and incapable to take care Kah Heng and is forced to send him to a disabled center.
Earlier, Kah Heng was sent to a disabled center that is chargeable but his mother found out that Kah Heng was not treated properly and the environment of the center was poor during her visit. Hence, his sister who is working from home during the MCO period has decided to pick him back home and take care of him.
However, his sister needs to return to the office and his mother is incapable to take care of him alone. Hence, his mother needs to look for a disabled center that is free of charge due to financial difficulty and finally entrusted SoServ Welfare Malaysia to take in Kah Heng. When Kah Heng’s family visited our center, they were satisfied and praised the center’s hygiene. They also feedback that the center’s environment is much better than those chargeable.
The training of SoServ Welfare Malaysia for the disabled
In our center, we will let the disabled child learn to chop vegetables and cooking, take care of themselves, and do some housework such as sweeping the floor and folding the clothes which Kah Heng very much enjoyed it. In addition, we also teach the children to have fun. Kah Heng likes to sing and dance very much, he will drive the atmosphere and fill the center full of laughs.
Kah Heng is a child with frequent cramps, hence our caregivers need to be around so can prevent him from falling down when he has cramps. To reduce the frequency of his cramps, we will avoid the center being too cold or heat and also Kah Heng being too hungry. The frequency of Kah Heng’s cramps is getting lesser after he lives in our center.
